Saxlund International has won an order worth 8 million SEK for the expansion of the Waste-to-Energy solution at the City of Karlsruhe's waste water treatment plant.

The order is for a turn-key expansion to a system designed and delivered by Saxlund in 2002 that will allow Karlsruhe's waste water treatment plant to increase its capacity to take care of sewage sludge from other waste water treatment plants in the vicinity. The sludge will be dried and used as biofuel for the production of renewable heat and power, replacing fossil fuels in Karlsruhe's energy mix.

+ At Saxlund we help our customers to turn Waste to Value. Apart from increasing the use of renewable energy and decreasing the carbon foot-print, the incineration of sludge in these very modern waste incineration plants, significantly lowers the emissions of heavy metals like led, cadmium and mercury, says Christoph Groffmann, Managing Director of Saxlund International GmbH.

At the heart of the delivery is Saxlund's Solids Pump designed especially for sewage sludge and a major benefit in the efficient, low-maintenance and environmentally beneficial offer of Saxlund.

+ Since the passing of the German law prohibiting the use of sludge in landfill some six years back Germany has spearheaded the development of Waste-to-Energy solutions in this field.

With 20 years of experience in this field and high profile references, Saxlund is established as a technology leader within this area. Just in the last month we have finished the commissioning of a similar system for the Hamburg Kohlbrandhoft, Germany's largest waste water plant as well as won an order for a similar expansion to another large German city, Stuttgart, says Rolf Hasselstrom, CEO Opcon AB.

Saxlund International GmbH is part of Opcon's Waste to Value initiative with a special focus on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy. Within the bioenergy sector, Opcon offers everything from the design of complete combined heat and power (CHP) plants to handling systems and incineration plants under the Saxlund brand.

Under the SRE Renergi brand, systems are supplied for cleaning and improved energy efficiency for bioenergy-powered district heating plants, sawmills, pellets producers and commercial greenhouses. The offer also includes flue gas condensation equipment for industrial activities as well as drying systems for biomass. The Opcon Group also supplies Opcon Powerbox for production of green electricity produced from hot water or wet steam.

Biofuels make EPA compliance a plus for coal utilities
Dothan AL (SPX) Jan 04, 2012
Btu-substitution with liquid biofuels can make EPA compliance a net plus for coal-burning utilities, according to Clean Energy Pathways. The company backs that assertion with a free one-day workshop for coal-burning utilities entitled, "The Care and Feeding of Boiler Tubes." The workshop explains how Btu-substitution with liquid biofuels can be coupled with infrared thermal monitoring to o ... read more
