Voltree Power has announced it has secured its second patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office related to its proprietary process and technology for harvesting and using energy from non-animal organisms, including trees and plants.

This second patent, #7,667,340 entitled "Power from a Non-Animal Organism" and dated February 23, 2010, enhances and adds international protection to its first patent, #7,466,032 B2, which was issued on December 16, 2008.

"As we develop our initial bioenergy harvesting products, like Javelin Lifetime, and begin testing a range of applications, we have been collaborating with several US and international businesses," said Stella Karavas, CEO of Voltree Power. "We are finding there is significant international interest and untapped opportunity, so the timing is right to enhance the ownership of our concept and add international protection."

In addition to international protection, the new patent provides a more detailed description of Voltree Power's bioenergy harvesting process and technology.

Voltree Power is leading the way in the practical integration of three distinct technologies: energy harvesting, lower-power radios, and wireless mesh networks.

Such integration offers solutions for numerous remote-sensing applications that include forest fire detection and prediction, agricultural sensing, waterway/reservoir monitoring, and hydrology as well as border and other remote location surveillance of motion, heat, and radiation under triple canopy.

Voltree's patented "Bioenergy Harvester" converts metabolic plant energy into usable electricity. It is a pioneering alternative to the battery that eliminates the impracticality of battery replacement in extensive mesh networks. Voltree's Javelin family consists of two product lines; one that incorporates the bioenergy harvester technology and one that utilizes battery pack replacement for placement versatility.

In December 2009, Voltree Power's Javelin products received a prestigious Popular Science Magazine "Best of What's New" award in the Green Tech category.

Voltree Power offices and manufacturing facility are based in Canton, Massachusetts U.S.A.
